Taste NY Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary with $100 Million Economic Impact

In a milestone celebration, New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball visited the Southern Tier Welcome Center in Kirkwood to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Taste NY. This official "eat local, drink local" program has left an indelible mark on New York's agricultural and business landscape, generating over $100 million in economic impact over the past decade.

Taste NY has been instrumental in promoting the best of New York's farmers, food and beverage producers, and their diverse array of products. With sales totaling nearly $700,000 in 2022 and over half a million visitors, the Southern Tier Welcome Center has been a thriving hub for showcasing over 150 vendors from across the state.

The program's success has extended beyond the Welcome Center, with New York State products now available at approximately 70 locations statewide, including airports, state parks, and the renowned Javits Center. Taste NY has also forged partnerships with sports venues and major events, such as the 2023 FISU World University Games and the PGA Championship, further bolstering its reach and impact.

During the open house event, visitors had the opportunity to sample products from various vendors, including Amish Agriculture, Black Dog Honey, and Gilligan's Ice Cream. These local producers have flourished with the support of Taste NY, enabling their growth and allowing them to connect with new consumers.

With the Southern Tier Welcome Center's success in aiding over 30 start-ups and hosting six businesses in its commercial kitchen, Taste NY continues to empower small businesses and foster their expansion. The program's dedication to educating travelers about locally crafted goods has transformed communities and turned Broome County into a destination renowned for its exceptional products.

As Taste NY celebrates its 10th anniversary, a series of events will be held across the state, with upcoming festivities planned in the Mohawk Valley. Additionally, ShopTasteNY.com is offering discounts and free shipping to honor the occasion, while a dedicated web page and social media campaigns will highlight the program's milestones.

Taste NY has revolutionized the way New Yorkers and visitors experience local flavors, propelling the state's agricultural industry to new heights and solidifying its reputation as a premier culinary destination.
