200 Million Birds Placed in NATURA Aviaries

200 Million Birds Placed in NATURA Aviaries

By Jamie Martin

Big Dutchman has announced a significant achievement in poultry housing innovation. The company has now placed 200 million birds globally in its NATURA cage free aviary system. Just five years ago, the company celebrated reaching 100 million bird placements, making this new milestone an important moment of growth.

The egg industry has experienced major changes in recent years. Regulatory standards have tightened, and consumer preferences have shifted toward cage-free and animal-friendly production methods. These trends have encouraged producers to adopt modern housing systems that improve bird welfare while maintaining efficiency.

To meet these needs, Big Dutchman introduced the NATURA cage free aviary lineup. These systems are designed to allow birds greater freedom of movement while supporting strong flock management and high egg quality.

The milestone was achieved in North America at Forsman Farms, where the barn was equipped with the NATURA Step system. This system is known for promoting easy bird movement, improved welfare, and consistent egg collection. Its performance and reliability have helped producers transition smoothly to cage-free operations.

The company unveiled the 200 million bird achievement at the International Production and Processing Expo. A small reception was held to recognize the farmer who contributed to reaching this important benchmark.

Company representatives expressed appreciation to producers for their continued trust. The milestone highlights the rapid adoption of cage free systems and shows how innovation is helping egg farmers respond to market demands while maintaining productivity and long-term success.
