Cayuga County 4-H is excited to present their 1st Annual Market Livestock Auction as a highlight of this year's Cayuga County 4-H Youth Fair. Taking place from August 3 to August 5 at the Union Springs Fire Department, this community event offers an opportunity for local businesses and community members to participate in the auction and make a direct impact on youth development in the county.
The livestock auction showcases animals raised throughout the year by dedicated 4-H exhibitors who have learned essential life skills such as responsible animal care, entrepreneurship, record-keeping, and marketing. By purchasing an animal, bidders support these young individuals and their educational endeavors. The 4-H youth receive the proceeds from the sale, using them to cover project costs or for personal goals such as continuing their education.
The auction will feature a variety of animals, including beef, lamb, pork, and poultry projects. Buyers can register for the auction at noon, followed by a buyers' reception and BBQ at 1:00 pm. The market livestock auction commences at 3:00 pm, where successful bidders can choose to donate their purchased animal to a local food bank or resell it to further support the program.
