ADM Invests in Farm Resilience Program

ADM Invests in Farm Resilience Program

By Jamie Martin

A new collaboration between ADM and American Farmland Trust is set to provide support to farmers as they navigate an increasingly complex agricultural environment. The initiative is part of ADM’s Farm Forward Initiative, which focuses on strengthening farm resilience and supporting long-term agricultural sustainability.

The program includes a $500,000 investment that will help farmers across several states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, and Missouri. Through this effort, farmers will gain access to technical guidance, grant funding, and connections to agricultural networks designed to support farm success.

“The Farm Forward Initiative reflects our continued commitment to working alongside American farmers and strengthening America's farm economy,” said Gary McGuigan, ADM Senior Vice President and President, North America Ag Services & Oilseeds and Global Trade.

“By partnering with trusted organizations like American Farmland Trust, we’re offering American farmers access to the tools, resources and support they need to strengthen their businesses, care for their land, and sustain their families,” said McGuigan.

Farmers today are adapting to a range of challenges, including changing market conditions, evolving trade policies, and rapid technological innovation. At the same time, many farms are managing financial pressure caused by rising input costs and uncertain market returns.

Industry leaders note that these pressures highlight the importance of providing farmers with practical tools and resources that help them strengthen their operations and plans.

One important focus of the program is succession planning. Succession planning helps farm families develop strategies to transfer land and business responsibilities to future generations. This process is essential for maintaining family farms and protecting farmland for long-term agricultural use.

American Farmland Trust will manage the on-the-ground engagement with farmers. The organization will provide hands-on support tailored to the needs of individual farming communities. Through its experience in land stewardship and farm viability, the group will connect farmers with planning services, peer networks, and financial resources.

“Farm resilience starts with strong planning, strong networks, and strong communities,” said AFT President and CEO John Piotti. “Through this partnership, we’re building on our work to advance soil health to further help farmers invest in their future – while attracting the next generation – by providing practical resources, direct financial assistance, peer connections, and expanding access to succession planning support.”

The initiative also aims to support farmers' well-being while improving productivity and market access. By combining financial investment with trusted partnerships, the program seeks to strengthen rural communities and encourage the next generation of farmers.

As agriculture continues to evolve, programs that promote resilience, sustainability, and strong planning are becoming increasingly important. The partnership between ADM and American Farmland Trust reflects a broader effort within the agriculture sector to support farmers and ensure a stable future for food production.
