Agri-Mark Completes $30 Million Expansion, Boosting New York's Dairy Industry

Agri-Mark Completes $30 Million Expansion, Boosting New York's Dairy Industry

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the successful completion of Agri-Mark's ambitious expansion and modernization project at its cheese manufacturing facility in Chateaugay, Franklin County.

The $30 million multi-phase project, unveiled during Dairy Month, ensures the retention of over 100 full-time jobs and bolsters the state's dairy industry in Northern New York, benefitting more than 500 agricultural jobs in the region. Agri-Mark's facility is renowned for producing award-winning Cabot and McCadam cheese products.

The centerpiece of the expansion is a state-of-the-art cheese production room, enhancing the facility's efficiency and productivity. The project also involved rebuilding the manufacturing center, reconfiguring the layout, and acquiring new equipment and machinery. Empire State Development has provided significant support, contributing $6 million in funding, including $4 million from the Economic Transformation Program.

Governor Hochul expressed her enthusiasm for the completion of the expansion, which ensures the availability of top-quality cheeses directly from Upstate New York's dairy farmers for consumers both locally and globally. Agri-Mark CEO David Lynn highlighted the significance of the project, which secures the cooperative's long-term presence in Chateaugay and allows them to continue producing the exceptional dairy products associated with the McCadam and Cabot brands.

The expansion project aligns with New York's commitment to the dairy industry, which accounts for approximately half of the state's total agricultural income. With over 3,200 dairy farms and being the leading producer of milk in the Northeast, New York's dairy sector plays a vital role in the economy. Agri-Mark's project adds to the recent successes in the dairy manufacturing sector, including upcoming projects like the fairlife production plant in Webster and Great Lakes Cheese packaging and manufacturing facilities in Franklinville.

Under Governor Hochul's leadership, additional support has been provided to farmers across the state. The FY 2024 Budget introduces a refundable 20 percent Investment Tax Credit for farmers, promoting on-farm production investment and modernization.

The completion of Agri-Mark's expansion project represents a significant milestone for New York's dairy industry. It underscores the collaborative efforts between the company, local and state officials, and the farming community to strengthen the region's economy, create jobs, and deliver high-quality dairy products.
