New York Crop Tour and Soil Health Days Set for August 6-7

By Blake Jackson

The New York Soil Health Alliance and the New York Corn & Soybean Growers Association are joining forces to host two informative field days on August 6-7 at Rodman Lott & Son Farms in Seneca Falls.

These events aim to deliver valuable insights and hands-on experiences for growers, agronomists, and soil health advocates across the state.

The 2025 Summer Crop Tour, hosted by the New York Corn & Soybean Growers Association, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 6. This event will feature keynote speakers, industry updates, and live equipment demonstrations.

Matt Reardon, senior atmospheric scientist with Nutrient Ag Solutions, will lead a presentation on the science of weather prediction.

A food truck lunch will be followed by field demonstrations of tractors, planters, drills, seed discs, sprayers, and other equipment. For more details and registration, visit: NY Corn & Soy Website or register directly on Eventbrite.

The following day, Thursday, August 7, the New York Soil Health Field Day will focus on practical strategies for improving soil health and crop resilience.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an optional biochar demonstration from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Registration is $20, which includes a three-meat BBQ lunch and raffle entry. One DEC credit and CCA credits are available.

Attendees will benefit from field stations covering bio-strip tillage, weed identification, soil compaction impacts on corn and soybeans, and equipment sanitation for weed management.

Keynote speakers include Aaron Breimer, precision agronomist at Moose-Ag, and Heather Darby, extension professor from the University of Vermont.

“This field day is about putting soil health into practice,” said Joseph Amsili, director of New York Soil Health at Cornell University. “By working together across public and private sectors, we’re excited for two days of seminars, knowledge sharing, networking, and live demonstrations.”
