NY summit to boost clean energy technologies

By Blake Jackson

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a pivotal summit aimed at accelerating New York’s transition to a clean energy future.

Scheduled for September 4-5, the event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, experts, and environmental advocates, to explore the potential of next-generation clean energy technologies.

A primary focus of the summit is to identify strategies for deploying innovative energy solutions such as geothermal, advanced nuclear, clean hydrogen, and long-duration energy storage.

These technologies are seen as crucial in supporting economic growth, job creation, and achieving the state's ambitious climate goals.

New York is already a leader in renewable energy, with significant investments in offshore wind, solar, and hydropower. However, the state recognizes the need to explore additional options to meet its clean energy targets and build a resilient, reliable energy grid.

The summit will provide a platform to discuss how these emerging technologies can complement existing renewable energy sources and contribute to a zero-emissions electricity system by 2040, as mandated by the Climate Act.

Beyond technological advancements, the summit will also address critical issues such as supply chain development, workforce training, and the potential for leveraging federal funding opportunities. By fostering collaboration between industry, government, and academia, New York aims to create a robust ecosystem for clean energy innovation and deployment.

The summit is expected to generate valuable insights and recommendations that will inform the state’s energy policies and investments. By convening experts from various sectors, New York is demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future and its leadership role in the global clean energy transition.
