Ten Vineyards Earn New York Sustainable Wine Certification

By Blake Jackson

The New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF) has announced that ten vineyards have achieved certification through the New York Sustainable Winegrowing Program (NYSWP), further cementing the state’s leadership in sustainable and responsible grape growing.

The newly certified vineyards include Argetsinger Vineyards, Barnstormer, Hermann J. Wiemer Nursery, Knapp Vineyard, Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards, RGNY Winery, Ria’s Wines, Sheldrake Point Winery, Tabora Farm & Winery, and Tuller Vineyards.

This group represents the ongoing expansion of New York’s sustainability movement, bringing together growers who are committed to protecting natural resources, fostering biodiversity, and strengthening local economies.

Developed in collaboration with industry experts, growers, and researchers from Cornell University, the NYSWP offers a detailed framework for continual improvement.

The certification process involves science-based standards and third-party audits covering over 140 best practices, including soil health, energy conservation, community engagement, and employee welfare.

Currently, 79 vineyards across New York are Certified Sustainable, with more than 30 wineries proudly displaying the Sustainability Trustmark on their labels. This Trustmark signals to consumers that the grapes used in these wines come from vineyards that meet stringent sustainability standards verified by independent auditors.

“Every new certification represents a shared commitment to the future of New York wine,” said Justin Jackson, Sustainability Program Manager at the New York Wine & Grape Foundation. “Our growers understand that sustainability is about more than one harvest - it’s about building resilience, protecting the land, and ensuring the long-term vitality of our industry and communities. These ten new vineyards are leading by example.”

The Trustmark enables wine lovers to easily identify bottles made from Certified Sustainable grapes while reinforcing transparency and confidence in environmental and social responsibility.

“Our vineyards and wineries are showing that sustainability is not an abstract goal - it’s a measurable, transparent, and community-driven practice,” said Sam Filler, Executive Director of NYWGF. “This growing network of certified vineyards demonstrates how science, collaboration, and stewardship can come together to shape a more resilient future for New York’s wine industry.”
