The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets has announced that the Dairy Promotion Order (DPO) Advisory Board is accepting applications for dairy marketing and research projects.
This initiative is part of a more than $16 million checkoff fund aimed at supporting the promotion of New York-produced fluid milk and dairy products. The call for proposals seeks projects that enhance the visibility, variety, and consumption of locally produced dairy goods.
Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations, research institutions, and private businesses not affiliated with the DPO Advisory Board. Projects promoting specific brands or trade names will not be considered.
All applications must be submitted to the Department by August 15, 2025. Full application details and requirements are available on the Department’s website: agriculture.ny.gov/dairy/dairy-promotion-order.
Funding for the program is sourced directly from New York’s dairy farmers through the Dairy Promotion Order Act. The goal is to support initiatives that help local farmers and processors extend their market reach within the U.S. and abroad.
“The work of the Dairy Promotion Order Advisory Board is critical to the continued research and promotion of the State’s dairy industry, and to the education of consumers about the importance of dairy to our economy, our communities, and our health," State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said. "I encourage all eligible applicants to apply to this funding opportunity to help advance New York’s dairy industry through important research and promotion projects.”
The DPO Advisory Board convened on June 17 to establish its 2026 priorities, outlining ten strategic goals. These include increasing dairy consumption among youth, promoting New York dairy through diverse distribution channels, enhancing public perception of dairy and farming practices, and advancing research to create new products and improve quality.
Additionally, the goals emphasize inclusivity in marketing efforts and identifying industry challenges to help educate consumers and support the growth of dairy processing in the state.
