From Wednesday, August 20 to Monday, September 1, 2025, visitors to the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse will have a unique opportunity to experience the world of horses like never before.
The 4-H for Horses Building, hosted by the NYS 4-H Horse Program, offers a fun, educational, and interactive space where guests of all ages can meet live horses and engage with 4-H youth leaders.
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., this one-of-a-kind exhibit is located between the 4-H Youth Building and the warm-up ring behind the Colosseum.
Each day, thousands of fairgoers stop by to explore equine care, watch live demonstrations, and take part in hands-on activities and games. It’s the only location at the fair where visitors can interact with real horses and learn directly from the youth who care for them.
Guests can expect to learn about grooming, horse handling, and equine careers, while enjoying family-friendly crafts and educational displays. The 4-H youth showcase skills in leadership, public speaking, and animal science, all while sharing their passion for horses with the public.
The exhibit is powered by donations and volunteers. Supporters can contribute by donating cash, purchasing items from the 4-H for Horses Amazon Gift Registry, or providing needed supplies like hay and grooming tools. Volunteers are also welcome and can help run activities, care for the horses, and assist visitors.
Volunteer shifts are flexible, typically lasting 4-6 hours. Volunteers enjoy time in the barn, share their love for horses, and help create a memorable fair experience for all.
