New York’s maple season will officially get underway with a ceremonial first tap at Parker Family Maple Farm in West Chazy. The event will feature New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball, who will highlight the importance of the maple industry and encourage residents to participate in the upcoming Maple Weekends on March 21-22 and March 28-29.
During these statewide celebrations, maple producers will welcome visitors to their sugarhouses for tours, syrup tastings, and live demonstrations showcasing how sap is transformed into maple syrup.
Maple syrup is the first agricultural product harvested each year in New York and remains a significant contributor to the state’s rural economy. In 2025, producers statewide made 829,000 gallons of syrup, ranking New York second nationally in maple production.
The state also boasts the largest supply of tappable maple trees in the country and is home to more than 2,000 maple producers.
Parker Family Maple Farm participates in the New York State Grown & Certified program, which recognizes farms committed to high standards for food safety and environmentally responsible practices.
The tapping event will take place Friday, February 27, at 11 a.m. at the farm’s Slosson Road location.
