The New York State Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program, in collaboration with BurrowRx and the Massachusetts Avenue Urban Farm, will host a free educational event titled "Managing Rats in Urban Farms and Gardens."
This hands-on program is designed to help urban farmers and gardeners effectively reduce rat populations using environmentally friendly and sustainable methods.
Scheduled for April 29, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the event will take place at Massachusetts Avenue Urban Farm, located at 387 Massachusetts Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213.
Participants will gain practical knowledge on rat control strategies, including demonstrations of the BurrowRx carbon monoxide device, an EPA-designated pest control tool for managing burrowing rodents. Patrick and Dillion Ryan will lead these demonstrations, showcasing how the device works as part of an integrated pest management strategy.
Additionally, attendees will receive expert guidance on choosing effective exclusion materials and implementing mechanical and cultural control techniques to minimize rat infestations. The event is ideal for urban farmers, gardeners, and community members seeking sustainable rodent management solutions.
