The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) is offering physical loss loans to support agricultural producers in New York affected by excessive rain, wind, and flash flooding that occurred from August 5 to August 10, 2024.
These loans are designed to assist farmers in repairing or replacing essential physical property that sustained damage or was completely destroyed due to these weather events.
Eligible items include farm structures, fixtures to real estate, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, and fruit or nut-bearing trees, as well as harvested or stored crops and hay.
The FSA's assistance aims to mitigate the financial strain on affected farms, ensuring the continuity of agricultural operations despite the damage.
Farmers in New York counties impacted by the disaster are encouraged to apply, as well as those in contiguous counties, which include Allegany, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Sullivan, Ulster, and Yates.
The deadline for applications is July 1, 2025, providing ample time for producers to seek this financial relief. For further information, interested applicants should contact their local FSA office.
