The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) is offering Physical Loss Loans to help agricultural producers in New York recover from damages caused by excessive rain, wind, and flash flooding that occurred from August 5 to August 10, 2024.
These loans are designed to assist farmers in repairing or replacing essential physical property critical to their operations, such as farm buildings, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut-bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.
The primary counties eligible for these loans include Delaware, Madison, Steuben, and St. Lawrence. In addition, several contiguous counties in New York are also eligible for assistance, including Allegany, Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Sullivan, Ulster, and Yates.
Producers who suffered losses due to the recent disaster are encouraged to apply for assistance before the application deadline of July 1, 2025.
To learn more or apply for these loans, impacted farmers can contact the USDA FSA office or visit their website for further information on loan terms, eligibility, and how to submit an application.
