Nominations are now open for the 2025 Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women in Triticum (WIT) awards, which celebrate the achievements of exceptional early-career scientists specializing in wheat research.
These prestigious awards, presented by the Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI), aim to highlight and support emerging leaders in the field of wheat science.
Recipients of the 2025 WIT awards will benefit from advanced training in leadership and scientific research, provided by the BGRI.
The application deadline for this year’s awards is November 29, 2024. The WIT awards, named in honour of Jeanie Borlaug Laube Chair of the BGRI and daughter of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman E. Borlaug have been recognising early-career wheat researchers since 2010.
Over the years, the BGRI has honoured more than 75 scientists from around the world for their contributions to wheat research.
The Borlaug Global Rust Initiative, founded in 2005 by Dr. Norman E. Borlaug and headquartered at Cornell University, is a global collaboration focused on protecting wheat crops from rust and other diseases.
Through innovative research, partnerships, and capacity-building efforts, the BGRI works to develop disease-resistant wheat varieties.
By bringing together scientists, breeders, and policymakers, the initiative aims to ensure the resilience of wheat production and the stability of a critical global food resource.
