Mobile Dairy Experience Reaches 1,600 Across New York

By Blake Jackson

March marked an important beginning for the 2026 Mobile Dairy Experience (MDE) tour, which traveled across New York State to engage policymakers, students, educators, and local communities. Through three distinct events, the program successfully fostered meaningful interactions and increased awareness of the state’s dairy industry.

The tour launched on March 18 in Albany, coinciding with National Ag Day, at an invite-only event hosted by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets.

The kickoff brought together industry professionals who explored the exhibit, asked in-depth questions, and connected directly with dairy farmers.

Highlights included a visit from Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball and participation from Cambridge FFA students. A young Jersey calf also drew attention, enhancing the hands-on learning experience. Attendees described the event as engaging, informative, and highly interactive.

On March 24-25, the MDE visited Royalton-Hartland Schools during the New York Ag Teacher of the Year Award celebration. Over two days, 633 students, educators, and community members participated. Students in grades 3 through 8 toured the exhibit, interacted with displays, and asked questions about dairy production.

A week-old calf named Pepper added a memorable, real-life element. The event emphasized the importance of agricultural education, supported by local FFA students who helped ensure smooth coordination.

The final stop took place March 28-29 at Stoney Ridge Farms during Maple Syrup Weekend. Despite cool weather, the event attracted strong attendance, with 912 visitors on the first day and even more on the second.

The exhibit complemented existing attractions like a pancake breakfast, while interactive kiosks and displays encouraged hands-on learning.

Overall, the MDE reached more than 1,600 people in March, demonstrating the value of direct engagement in promoting dairy education and awareness.
