According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5.0 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday. Topsoil moisture supplies were 1 percent very short, 10 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 4 percent very short, 11 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.
Fall tillage was 34 percent complete, behind last year's 47 percent and nearly on par with the 5-year average of 38 percent.
New York apples harvested were 34 percent complete, about equal with last year's 35 percent and the 5-year average of 26 percent. The condition of the apple crop was 0 percent very poor, 16 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 61 percent good and 4 percent excellent.
Eighty-seven percent of corn was in the dough stage and 63 percent was dented. Fifteen person was rated mature. Corn harvested for silage was 21 percent complete, ahead of last year and the 5-year average, both at 13 percent. The corn condition was 2 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 32 percent good and 33 percent excellent.
Soybeans fully podded were reported at 74 percent and 33 percent of soybeans were dropping leaves. The crop condition was 1 percent very poor, 6 percent poor, 19 percent fair, 35 percent good and 39 percent excellent.
Nine percent of the New York winter wheat harvest has been planted, the same as last year and just one percent below the 5-year average.
