New York Apple Industry Gains $1.65M Marketing Boost

By Blake Jackson

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, in partnership with the New York Apple Marketing Order (AMO) Advisory Board, has announced the allocation of nearly $1.65 million to support marketing initiatives aimed at boosting the state's apple industry for the 2025 crop year.

The funding will go to three organizations selected through a competitive review process focused on strategic value, measurable outcomes, and alignment with AMO priorities.

“The Department thanks all the applicants for their thoughtful proposals to ensure the growth and success of the apple industry," State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball said.

"I also thank New York’s apple growers for their ongoing investment in these collective marketing efforts that benefit the industry as a whole and introduce even more consumers to New York apples.”

“The marketing of New York Apples is a concerted effort of the Department, the AMO Board and the organizations selected by a detailed process," AMO Chair Randy Pratt said.

"These organizations along with the many apple packing and shipping companies in New York will promote and market New York’s wonderful apple crop. We look forward to a successful year for all New York apple growers.”

The New York Apple Association (NYAA) received the majority of the funding, $1.5 million, to carry out two campaigns. One initiative will focus on broad consumer marketing using digital advertising, social media, influencer collaborations, and media partnerships.

The second initiative centers on retail marketing, with in-store promotions, cooperative advertising, and enhanced retailer engagement to drive apple sales.

Shift ology Communication was awarded $47,560 under the innovative marketing category. Their project will host live, interactive Virtual Farm Trips, allowing classrooms and the public to tour New York apple farms virtually and connect with growers.

Category Partners secured $100,000 for a market research project that will provide data-driven insights into consumer trends, processed apple product demand, and retail behaviors.

Project implementation will begin in July 2025 and extend through the 2025-2026 marketing season.
