Farmers Invited to Delaware County Spring Crop School

Farmers Invited to Delaware County Spring Crop School

By Blake Jackson

Farmers, crop advisers, and agricultural professionals will have an opportunity to gain valuable insights at the 2026 Delaware County Spring Crop School, scheduled for March 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hamden Town Hall in Hamden, New York.

The educational event will bring together researchers and industry experts to discuss current crop production challenges, nutrient management strategies, and pest control practices affecting regional agriculture.

Registration will open at 10:15 a.m., allowing participants seeking New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recertification credits to complete their course certificates before the program begins.

The first presentation will review how manure injection influences yield and forage quality in sod systems within Delaware County. This session will be followed by a discussion on the value of manure in corn production, highlighting results from statewide on-farm research that examines benefits beyond simple fertilizer replacement.

Later in the morning, participants will learn about the prevalence of seed corn maggot in New York and how neonicotinoid seed treatments influence pest control and crop yields. After a midday lunch break, the program will continue with a session examining how liming affects soil nutrient availability in Delaware County and the New York City watershed region.

Afternoon presentations will focus on mycotoxin management in forage crops, fungal disease prevention in corn and soybeans, and strategies for addressing herbicide-resistant weeds and late-season grass control.

The event costs $10 to attend. Participants must remain for the full program to receive recertification certificates, which will be distributed at the end of the meeting. For more information, interested individuals may contact Meghan Potter at mp2356@cornell.edu or (607) 510-7065.
