The New York Farm Bureau (NYFB) recently concluded its participation in the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Annual Convention & Trade Show, where NYFB President David Fisher and Vice President Kim Skellie joined delegates from across the nation.
The convention, held from January 24-29, featured educational programs, networking events, and policy discussions. NYFB played a significant role, with several of its policy proposals being adopted by the AFBF.
These include adjustments to crop insurance claims for apple growers, a revised definition of "farm" to better support controlled environment agriculture, and reforms to union dues authorization procedures.
Furthermore, Monroe County Farm Bureau member Labby, a company developing AI-powered milk testing technology, was named runner-up in the AFBF Ag Innovation Challenge, receiving $25,000 to further develop their technology.
NYFB was recognized for its outstanding achievements, receiving the Pinnacle Award, the highest honor for a state Farm Bureau.
They also earned Awards of Excellence in all four program categories: Advocacy, Coalitions & Partnerships, Engagement & Outreach, and Leadership & Business Development.
President Fisher, who also serves on the AFBF Board of Directors, was reappointed to the Executive Committee.
"This is a proud week of accomplishment for New York Farm Bureau. We showed that NYFB is a strong voice in forming major policy positions that will help our farms succeed. Our grassroots efforts, which would not be possible without our members, proved highly effective in meeting our policy goals," said Fisher.
"We echo the theme of this convention by stepping up and driving forward to support our family farms and the important work they do every day to feed us and contribute to our economy."
