New York Harvest Pace Mostly on Par with Averages



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 3 percent very short, 5 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 3 percent very short, 5 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus.

The New York apple harvest was 75 percent complete, ahead of last year and the 5-year averages, both at 70 percent. Grapes harvested reached 73 percent complete. The pear harvested was nearing completion at 95 percent.

Cabbage harvested was nearing completion at 93 percent, while the potato harvest was at 80 percent complete.

Corn dented was 90 percent, ahead of the 5-year average of 84 percent, while corn mature was 52 percent, behind the average of 60 percent. Corn harvested for silage was 75 percent complete, while corn harvested for grain was 16 percent.

Soybeans fully podded reached 95 percent and soybeans dropping leaves was at 90 percent. The soybean harvest was 44 percent complete.

Fall tillage was 63 percent complete, the same as the 5-year average.

Winter wheat planted was 64 percent complete with emergence reported at 34 percent.
