NRCS Meeting Seeks Input on Local Conservation Needs

NRCS Meeting Seeks Input on Local Conservation Needs

By Blake Jackson

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), part of the United States Department of Agriculture, will host a Local Working Group meeting on May 6, 2026, for stakeholders in Broome, Chemung, Chenango, and Tioga counties. The virtual session is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. EDT and is open to the public.

This meeting aims to gather input on key agricultural and natural resource concerns within the region. Participants are encouraged to share insights that can help shape conservation priorities and guide the implementation of Farm Bill programs.

Attendees may include farmers, private forestland owners, representatives from environmental and agricultural organizations, and officials from government agencies involved in conservation efforts.

Local Working Groups serve as subcommittees of the NRCS State Technical Committee and play an important role in advising NRCS on local conservation needs and strategies.

Feedback collected during the meeting helps ensure that programs are aligned with community priorities and environmental challenges.

Those interested in joining the meeting can contact District Conservationist Erin Kurtz at erin.kurtz@usda.gov for participation details or access the session virtually using the provided meeting link or phone 347-690-4420.
