NEW YORK STATE WEATHER

NY hosts 1st north american manure expo

NY hosts 1st north american manure expo

By Blake Jackson

Central New York, for a unique agricultural event! The 2024 North American Manure Expo (NAME) is moseying on down to your neck of the woods, marking the first time the premier showcase of manure management will be held in the Empire State.

From July 17th to 18th, Patterson Farms in Springport, Cayuga County, will transform into a hub of all things manure, co-hosted by Cornell University's PRO-DAIRY program and the University of Vermont's Northwest Crops and Soils crew.

Expect a potent mix of educational sessions, technology demonstrations, and an industry trade show. Farmers, consultants, composters, agribusinesses, and manure professionals – you're all invited to dive into the world of responsible nutrient management.

Attendees can learn how manure can be harnessed to boost soil health, curb nutrient runoff, and even reduce reliance on commercial fertilizers. It's a win-win for both farms and the environment.

This isn't just any regional event – it's a national spotlight on New York's agricultural scene. Previous NAMEs have graced states like Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and even neighboring Canada, attracting over 900 attendees to the 2023 edition alone. Now, it's Central New York's turn to shine and showcase its innovative approaches to manure management.

So, mark your calendars, grab your boots, and get ready to get down and dirty (in the best possible way) at the 2024 North American Manure Expo. It's an event that promises to be both informative and eye-opening, proving that even manure can be a shining star of sustainable agriculture.
