The second New York City live bird market in a week has tested positive for avian influenza.
The disease was detected at a 490-bird Brooklyn market in multiple species, including Muscovy ducks, red fowl, geese and guineas.
USDA confirmed the disease July 29, four days after identifying avian influenza at another Brooklyn bird market.
About two dozen supplier flocks in Pennsylvania, a major source of birds for East Coast live markets, were included in the disease traceback for the later detection. None tested positive, according to that’s state Ag Department.
The detections at the two markets are the first reported in U.S. domestic fowl since May. The last outbreak at a large farm was in April.
