New York Ag Connection - 05/31/2023

As warm weather embraces the area, cheese lovers are invited to embark on an exciting adventure along the Central New York Cheese Trail. This trail showcases a diverse array of cheese producers offering an exquisite selection, from aged cheddar to delectable spreads and gourmet items. With participants located throughout the region, visitors can obtain a trail card from any of the stops and have it validated at each location. Those who visit at least nine of the venues will receive a complimentary insulated tote bag as a reward for their exploration.

Several stops on the trail are self-serve farm stores, where customers can make honor-based purchases. It is advisable to contact the locations in advance for up-to-date information, as some changes have occurred. Notably, the Grassy Cow Farm no longer produces cheese, and The Compound in Utica has closed its doors.

Cheese enthusiasts will find a range of captivating destinations along the trail. In Oneida County, Adirondack Cheese in Barneveld offers New York cheddar aged on-site, while Collins Farm and Creamery in Rome presents local cheeses and butters. Further south, the Stoltzfus Family Dairy in Vernon Center distributes high-quality dairy products, and Artisanal Premium Cheese in Utica specializes in cave-aged artisan cheeses.

In Madison County, Callee1945 Cheese Shop in Oneida showcases rare cheeses from around the world, while Kriemhild Dairy Farms in Hamilton produces organic, grass-based dairy foods. Journeying towards the Chenango County line, visitors can explore Jewett's Cheese House in Earlville, renowned for its aged cheddar and an extensive selection of locally produced items.

Herkimer County offers the Jones Family Farm in Herkimer, where artisan and farmhouse-style cheeses are crafted using fresh, unadulterated milk. Additionally, Original Herkimer Cheese in Ilion produces premium cheeses and accompaniments with locally sourced ingredients.

Finally, in Otsego County, The Cooperstown Cheese Company in Milford presents European-inspired cheeses made from Jersey and Brown Swiss cow's milk, allowing visitors to savor award-winning creations.

Embark on the Central New York Cheese Trail and experience the rich flavors, artisan craftsmanship, and warm hospitality that define this unique culinary journey through the heart of New York State.
