Farm Dog of the Year 2026 Nominations Open

Farm Dog of the Year 2026 Nominations Open

By Jamie Martin

The American Farm Bureau Federation has opened nominations for the 2026 Farm Dog of the Year contest. Now in its eighth year, this contest honours farm dogs that provide loyal support to farmers and ranchers. Sponsored by Nestlé Purina PetCare, the contest offers cash prizes and other rewards.

The grand prize winner will receive $5,000, a year’s supply of Purina Pro Plan dog food, and be celebrated at the American Farm Bureau Convention in Anaheim, California, in January 2026. The winning dog will also be featured in a professional video, highlighting their story and daily contributions to the farm.

Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall shared, “Farm dogs play an important role on the farm and hold a special place in our hearts. They show up every day without complaint and are eager to pitch in.”

Farm dogs help with tasks such as herding animals, chasing away predators, opening gates, and welcoming visitors. Desired traits include helpfulness, obedience, and playfulness.

Pet lovers across America can also participate through the People’s Choice Pup award, where online voting helps select a favourite dog. This winner receives $2,500 and social media bragging rights.

Scientific research from Mayo Clinic and Purina shows that time with dogs can reduce stress and improve emotional well-being, reinforcing their value on the farm.

To enter, dog owners must be Farm Bureau members. Those interested can join by visiting fb.org/join. Nominees must submit a photo, written answers, and an optional video by July 11, 2025.

Purina’s Jack Scott added, “We are proud to continue supporting and celebrating hard-working and loving farm dogs through the American Farm Bureau’s Farm Dog of the Year contest.”

The contest continues to connect farms with pet-loving audiences and celebrates the bond between people and their working dogs.
