Garlic and Brassica Workshop in New York

Garlic and Brassica Workshop in New York

By Blake Jackson

Vegetable growers interested in garlic and brassica production will have the opportunity to attend an in-depth workshop on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Whallonsburg Grange in Essex, NY. A snow date is set for March 7.

The event will run from 9:30 AM to 4 PM, with options for half-day or full-day attendance. Registration costs $20 per person for a half-day and $30 for the full day, with lunch included for all participants.

The morning session will focus on garlic production, covering best practices from seed to postharvest. Participants will also learn about managing the invasive leek moth, a significant pest affecting allium crops. A garlic grower panel will provide insights and firsthand experiences from seasoned farmers.

The afternoon session will shift to brassica (cole) crops, exploring topics such as pest and disease management, crop rotation, and variety selection.

Growers will also have the chance to participate in a vegetable roundtable discussion, where they can share experiences, ask questions, and discover new tools and techniques.

Attendees who complete the full-day program will be eligible for two DEC pesticide recertification credits in categories 1A, 10, and 23.

This workshop is supported by the Northern NY Agricultural Development Program. For inquiries or accommodation requests (by February 18), contact Elisabeth Hodgdon at eh528@cornell.edu or 518-650-5323.
