Representative John W. Mannion from New York’s 22nd District has been selected to join the House Education and Workforce Committee as well as the House Agriculture Committee. These assignments draw on his background in teaching and labor representation, positioning him to advocate for key initiatives such as the region’s growing agricultural economy and the Micron semiconductor project.
“As a lifelong educator, former union president, and state senator who delivered results and lowered costs for working families, I look forward to championing policies that invest in education, strengthen our workforce, and ensure the success of Micron’s transformational $100B semiconductor facility in NY-22. On the Agriculture Committee, I will work to support New York’s farmers and provide our rural communities with better access to healthcare and broadband while protecting our food supply and advancing child nutrition programs. I’m grateful to the House Steering and Policy Committee for entrusting me with these critical roles.” said Representative John W. Mannion.
The House Education and Workforce Committee manages federal policies affecting students, educators, and workers across the country. Mannion’s years as a science teacher and union president give him a unique perspective on tackling today’s educational and labor challenges. Previously, he played a pivotal role in securing workforce development funding and establishing partnerships to prepare the local workforce for advanced technological careers, particularly those linked to the Micron facility.
His assignment to the Agriculture Committee highlights his commitment to supporting the district’s agricultural community, which includes dairy farms, apple orchards, and various crop producers that are key drivers of the regional economy. During his time as a state senator, Mannion championed free school meals for many districts and led efforts to address infrastructure challenges in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley.
Through these committee assignments, Mannion plans to deliver policies that strengthen the workforce, support education, and sustain the agricultural sector, all while driving economic growth and enhancing resources for local communities.
