Legends of the past - Checker and Anthony at NY state fair

By Blake Jackson

The Great New York State Fair is bringing back the iconic sounds of the 1960s with the addition of legendary performers Chubby Checker and Little Anthony to its summer lineup.

Chubby Checker, a Fair favorite, kicks off the festivities on August 21st at 1:00 pm on the Chevy Court Stage. This marks his sixth performance at the Fair and his third consecutive year returning to "twist again" with fans.

Checker's career spans over six decades, with his biggest hit, "The Twist," solidifying its place as the first number one song on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. He continues to release music and remains energized by the audience's enthusiasm, citing it as the key to his longevity.

Little Anthony, with a career spanning over 60 years and 50 million records sold worldwide, joins the Fair on August 27th, also at 1:00 pm on the Chevy Court Stage. Alongside his group, he's known for iconic doo-wop hits like "Tears on My Pillow," "Goin' Out of My Head," and "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko-Ko Bop." He's been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.

"Witnessing living legends like Chubby Checker and Little Anthony perform is an incredible experience," says Interim Fair Director Julie LaFave. "We're thrilled to welcome back Chubby and showcase Little Anthony's talent for the first time. Fairgoers of all ages are encouraged to pack their dancing shoes, as these icons are guaranteed to get everyone moving!"

The Fair runs from August 21st to September 2nd, with all concerts included in the admission price. As the most affordable state fair in the country, it offers 39 national recording acts across three venues: Chevy Court (1:00 pm and 6:00 pm) and Suburban Park (8:00 pm).

This announcement adds to the previously revealed lineup, which includes artists like TLC, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, and Brian Kelley. The full schedule, including updates, can be found on the Fair's website.
