New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball has announced the opening of Round 2 for the Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Farmers Grant Program and the Beginning Farmers Grant Program.
A total of $4 million is dedicated to supporting farmers who face barriers entering agriculture due to social, economic, or experiential disadvantages.
The grant programs aim to strengthen New York's agricultural sector by making it more inclusive and diverse. Each program offers $2 million in funding to aid farmers with initiatives such as purchasing land, equipment, or livestock, and improving farm operations.
Eligible entities interested in administering these grants should submit their proposals by January 24, 2025. Details on proposal requirements and submission can be found on the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets website.
Commissioner Ball emphasized the importance of these programs: “I encourage all eligible entities to consider the opportunity to administer the second rounds of these important funds, which help give a boost to farmers who are just starting out or who face disproportionate barriers to success as they start or expand their business."
This funding not only aids in the immediate establishment and expansion of farm operations but also supports training and apprenticeship opportunities, fostering a well-prepared workforce to carry forward New York’s agricultural legacy.

An informational webinar will be hosted to assist applicants, underlining the state’s commitment to broadening access and support to all aspiring and current farmers in New York.
