Temple Grandin, a scientist and neurodiversity advocate, will give a virtual seminar hosted by the Center for Research on Programmable Plant Systems (CROPPS) on October 8th at 1 p.m. ET.
Grandin, a Colorado State University animal science professor, has made significant contributions to agricultural innovation and sustainability.
Her research has transformed livestock handling and influenced modern agricultural systems. Registration for the seminar, "Creating Space for Different Minds in Research," is now open.
Grandin will discuss the importance of neurodivergent perspectives in driving innovation, particularly in scientific research and agriculture.
She will draw from her career and personal experience with autism to highlight how diverse thinking styles contribute to scientific discovery and problem-solving, especially in programmable plant systems.
Grandin will emphasize the need to create space for different minds to actively contribute to research, stressing that visual thinkers, often overlooked in research institutions, can bring valuable talents to the field.
Following her talk, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.
"We are honored to host Dr. Temple Grandin," said Matthew Runyon, chair of the CROPPS Trainee Leadership Council. "Her work in agricultural innovation and neurodiversity advocacy has significantly impacted the field, and we look forward to her insights for our research community."
Grandin, a world-renowned individual with autism, is a leading voice in autism advocacy and animal behavior. She is the author of six books, including national bestsellers Thinking in Pictures and Animals in Translation.
A former Autism Society of America board member, Grandin frequently lectures across the U.S. to inspire and educate parents and teachers.
Her work has been widely covered by media outlets such as The New York Times, People, National Public Radio, and 20/20.
Grandin was recognized as one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people, and her life was portrayed in an HBO movie starring Claire Danes, which won seven Emmy Awards.
Participants can join the virtual seminar by registering online.
