Central New Yorkers Opting for Plastic Eggs This Easter Amid High Egg Prices

Egg prices surged to record highs in January nationwide. As Easter approaches, the prices of eggs are dropping, but not by much.

Egg prices are still higher than most customers would like, but some people, like Anika Yarbrough, are simply dealing with the increase in prices, “It's a little fluctuated. I mean, one moment it’s decent but not what it was a few years ago but I mean right now, we need it, can’t beat it so we gotta do what we gotta do.”

According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, New York egg prices are down overall but are up four cents this week from last. A dozen large eggs will cost you about $3.25.

The minuscule price drop isn't making customers relieved, Kambreia Derby said the prices don't make sense to her, “It’s just expensive. Like everything's like too much, way too much. I don’t understand why egg prices are so high though.”

U.S. Bureau of Labor data shows prices peaked in January at $4.82.

The continuing price increase of eggs has some families rethinking their Easter holiday plans, “Definitely, definitely refraining from doing any like egg coloring, it's just really pricey," Derby said.
