U.S. Congressmen Mike Flood (R-NE) and Troy A. Carter, Sr. (D-LA) introduced the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Information Act. This legislation mandates the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) to include Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in their routine fuel reports.
Nebraska, a leading biofuel producer, stands to benefit greatly from this initiative, which aims to expand the bioeconomy and support rural economic growth.
The bill is designed to provide detailed data on SAF production, assisting stakeholders in tracking progress and identifying opportunities. It also aims to support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector, which currently accounts for about 10% of U.S. transportation-related emissions.
Congressman Flood has previously championed the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Accuracy Act, underscoring his commitment to promoting biofuel markets. This new act is supported by various associations, including the Renewable Fuels Association and the National Corn Growers Association, highlighting its wide-reaching impact and support.
Key proponents of the bill assert that it will ensure transparency and help scale up SAF production, crucial for meeting the increasing demand for cleaner transportation options and fostering eco-friendly aviation solutions across the United States.
