New York Soil Moisture Mostly Adequate to Surplus



According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in New York, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday.

Topsoil moisture supplies were 4 percent very short, 1 percent short, 74 percent adequate, and 21 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 6 percent very short, 4 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus.

Fall tillage was 76 percent complete, slightly ahead of last year's 74 percent and well ahead of the 5-year average of 68 percent.

Corn dented was reported at 95 percent and corn mature was 67 percent. Corn harvested for grain was 29 percent complete, while corn harvested for silage stood at 90 percent complete.

Soybeans dropping leaves was 94 percent while the soybean harvecst is ahead of both last year and the 5-year average at 59 percent complete.

New York's winter wheat planting was 80 percent complete, the same as the 5-year average. Wheat emerged was 52 percent, ahead of the 5-year average of 47 percent.
