New York's Maple Syrup Production Sees Growth in Value Despite Decrease in 2023 Output


According to Charles Walker, state statistician for USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in New York, the state's agricultural value of production in 2022 reached $30.6 million, marking a significant 25% increase compared to the previous year. Although the average price per gallon of maple syrup in New York decreased slightly from $37.80 in 2021 to $37.50 in 2022, the overall value demonstrated positive growth.

In terms of maple syrup production, New York saw a decline of 8% in 2023, with 750 thousand gallons produced. The number of maple taps also decreased from the previous year, estimated at 2.50 million in 2023. However, the yield per tap increased to 0.300 gallon per tap, up from 0.291 in 2022.

On a national scale, the United States experienced a 15% decrease in maple syrup production for the 2023 season, with a total output of 4.18 million gallons.
