NEW YORK STATE WEATHER

Record soybean and corn yields forecast this fall

Record soybean and corn yields forecast this fall

By Jamie Martin

The USDA's latest Crop Production and World Ag Supply and Demand Estimates reports have provided a positive outlook for this fall's harvest, with soybeans and corn expected to reach record yields.

The corn yield is forecast to hit 183.1 bushels per acre, an increase of 3.3 bushels from the previous record. Soybeans are also projected to achieve a new high with 53.2 bushels per acre.

This year's soybean production is particularly notable, not only for the increased yield but also for an expansion in planted acreage, with one million additional acres reported. This expansion has led to a projected 10% increase in soybean production from last year, with ending stocks rising 24% from the previous month's report.

The August reports are crucial as they integrate comprehensive survey and satellite data, alongside certified acreage data, to provide more precise crop production estimates.

This month is pivotal for soybean growth and development, making weather conditions through the end of August a critical factor for final yields.

Looking ahead, the agricultural community eagerly anticipates the next major reports due on September 12th, which will further clarify the season's prospects.
