Record US corn and soybean yields forecast

Record US corn and soybean yields forecast

By Jamie Martin

In the recent August World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) Report, the USDA projects historic yields for U.S. corn and soybeans.

The forecasted national average for corn stands at 183.1 bushels per acre, and soybeans at 53.2 bushels per acre, both figures slightly exceeding previous expectations and last month's predictions.

The USDA's analysis shows corn production reaching 15.147 billion bushels, a slight uptick from prior forecasts, despite a reduction in harvested area.

Soybean figures are also robust, with production estimated at 4.589 billion bushels owing to increased harvested areas.

However, all wheat production saw a decrease to 1.982 billion bushels, adjusting after a previous increase reported in July.

On the stock side, ending stocks for the new crop year are predicted at 2.073 billion bushels for corn, 560 million for soybeans, and 828 million for wheat.

Global stock projections also saw shifts, with corn ending stocks decreasing, while soybean stocks rose, and wheat stocks decreased. These figures underscore the dynamic nature of global agricultural supply and demand, hinting at the complexities influencing market movements and crop production.

This report not only underscores a potentially bountiful harvest for U.S. farmers but also highlights the variable factors that could influence these outcomes as the harvest season approaches.
