The Commodores to Open 2026 New York State Fair Concerts

By Blake Jackson

Legendary soul and funk group The Commodores will launch the Chevrolet Music Series at the 2026 Great New York State Fair with a live performance on Wednesday, August 26, at 1 p.m. at Chevy Court. Their appearance will mark the opening day of the Fair, setting the tone for a summer filled with music and entertainment.

The Commodores were formed in 1968 in Tuskegee, Alabama, and rose to prominence after signing with Motown Records. Over the decades, the band has built a lasting legacy with a distinctive mix of soul, funk, and R&B that has resonated with audiences worldwide.

Commodores are best known for iconic hits such as “Brick House,” “Easy,” “Three Times a Lady,” and “Nightshift.” Their success includes multiple Grammy Awards and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, solidifying their place among the most influential acts in American music.

“The Commodores’ timeless sound and incredible stage presence make them one of the most beloved acts in American music,” said Fair Director Julie LaFave.

“Their performance at The Fair is sure to bring a high-energy, unforgettable experience for fans of all ages. We’re thrilled to welcome such an iconic group to kick off our concert series!”

The 2026 Great New York State Fair will run from Wednesday, August 26, through Labor Day, Monday, September 7. All concerts are included with Fair admission, which will be available for purchase later this summer.

Admission costs $8 for adults, while children under 12 and adults aged 65 and older receive free entry, making it one of the most affordable state fairs in the nation.

This year’s Chevrolet Music Series will feature 41 nationally recognized performers. Concerts will take place daily at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Chevy Court near Gate 1, with additional 8 p.m. shows at Suburban Park. Two special 9 p.m. performances are also scheduled for August 28 and September 4.
