Wyclef Jean to Close New York State Fair Music Series

By Blake Jackson

The Great New York State Fair has announced that global music icon Wyclef Jean will headline its closing concert on Monday, September 7, at 6 p.m. The performance will take place at the Suburban Park stage as part of the popular Chevrolet Music Series.

Wyclef Jean is a legendary rapper, singer, and producer known for shaping hip hop, pop, and reggae music for over 30 years. As a member of The Fugees, along with Lauryn Hill and Pras Michel, he contributed to the award-winning album The Score. This album featured famous songs such as “Ready or Not,” “Fu-Gee-La,” and “Killing Me Softly.”

Jean also built a successful solo career with hit songs like “Gone Till November” and “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill).” He has worked with many artists across different music styles and continues to influence the global music scene. His work now extends into music technology, where he co-founded SodoMoodLab and contributes to projects like Showtime’s The Chi.

In addition to music, Jean plays key roles in major organizations. He is Chief Creative Officer of OpenWav, a consultant for Google DeepMind, and a Global Culture Advisor for Circle Internet Group. His efforts aim to connect culture, technology, and finance for a positive impact.

Jean is also known for his charity work, especially in Haiti. He supports education and recently helped Haitian students succeed in a robotics program. He serves as a Global Ambassador for Global Citizen and received the 2025 Innovator Award from Music Will.

Fair Director Julie LaFave said, “We’re fortunate to be closing out the 2026 Fair with an artist of Wyclef Jean’s caliber. His music has brought people together for decades, and his energy and influence span generations. That sense of community and celebration is exactly what The Fair is all about.”

The fair will run from August 26 to September 7. Tickets cost $8 for adults, while children under 12 and seniors aged 65 and older can enter for free. Visitors can check schedules and updates through official links:

The closing performance is expected to bring together people of all ages, celebrating music, unity, and culture. Such events highlight the importance of community gatherings and shared experiences.
