The enrollment period for Essex County Agricultural District is open from October 20 to November 19. Landowners interested in adding parcels to Agricultural District #1 must submit an enrollment form within this timeframe.
New York's Department of Agriculture and Markets regulates this enrollment period, and it welcomes landowners producing agricultural goods, without any minimum production requirement. Inclusion in the Ag District offers "right to farm" protection under New York state regulations. Approval for applications is determined by the Essex County Farmland Protection Board.
For additional details and enrollment forms, visit the "Farmland Protection" section in the "Agriculture" category on the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County website (essex.cce.cornell.edu), or contact Carly Summers at 518-962-4810 or cfs82@cornell.edu.
