New York Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball kicked off Dairy Month with the Dairy Education Days series, organized in collaboration with the American Dairy Association North East (ADANE). The initiative aims to educate elementary school students about the state's dairy community.
The month-long celebration includes farm and processing plant tours across various regions, promoting the significance of New York's dairy industry to the economy and public health.
To further support local dairy products, Taste NY Welcome Centers and Markets are hosting special promotions and encouraging consumers to buy locally. The Department will emphasize the sustainability practices of dairy producers and processors, along with the public health efforts of the Milk Control and Dairy Service team.
The Dairy Education Days series aligns with the Department's investment in agricultural education and workforce development.
In 2020, the Dairy Think Tank was established to address industry challenges and prioritize workforce development and processing expansion. Additionally, the State is committed to creating a strong agriculture workforce pipeline by collaborating with key stakeholders and educational institutions.
Commissioner Ball urges everyone to recognize and support local farms and processors during Dairy Month. With over 3,200 dairy farms and nearly 300 processing plants, New York leads the industry.
