For the week ending November 11, 2024, New York's agricultural progress has shown steady advancement, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. Favorable field conditions allowed for approximately 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork.
Topsoil moisture levels were measured at 4% very short, 37% short, 56% adequate, and 3% surplus, while subsoil moisture supplies were reported as 2% very short, 7% short, 87% adequate, and 4% surplus.
In terms of crop progress, 95% of corn has reached maturity, with 61% of the crop harvested for grain. This represents a notable increase compared to 47% harvested in the previous week and stands ahead of both the previous year’s and the five-year average.
Fall tillage has made significant headway, with 91% of the fieldwork completed, surpassing the five-year average of 79%.
The grape harvest is nearly complete, with 99% of the crop gathered. Alfalfa hay’s fourth cutting is also nearing completion, with 95% done, which is ahead of the 85% five-year benchmark.
Other hay cutting has reached 78%, while soybean harvest sits at 88%, advancing from 79% the prior week. Winter wheat planting is nearly complete at 97%, with 86% of the crop emerging successfully, slightly ahead of average emergence rates.
