Nut tree cultivation in New York State is set to take center stage on August 12, 2023. The New York Nut Growers Association (NYNGA), an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that promotes nut tree cultivation across the state, will hold their much-awaited summer meeting from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm on August 12.
This event, targeted towards nut growing enthusiasts at all levels, is set to be held at the Agroforestry Resource Center of the Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Columbia & Greene Counties in Acra, NY.
Interestingly, NYNGA is not just for its members. The association warmly invites non-members who are passionate about nut tree cultivation to join the event. At this gathering, attendees will have the unique opportunity to meet and learn from experienced growers, who have years of hands-on experience and knowledge in the field.
Whether you're a seasoned nut tree grower or just beginning your journey, the meeting is the perfect platform to learn, network, and engage with like-minded individuals.
The summer meeting promises an exciting and informative lineup of topics. Attendees will be introduced to the host agency, CCE of Columbia & Greene Counties, a valuable resource for local agriculture. The meeting will also delve into summer nut orchard topics, providing attendees with an understanding of best practices during this crucial season for nut growth.
The meeting is not just about discussing existing practices but also exploring new methods and breakthroughs. It will feature discussions on nut tree propagation techniques, such as grafting and chip budding, which are essential skills for any aspiring nut tree grower.
The meeting will provide insights into unique concepts such as yellowbud hickory oil and agrivoltaics – the integration of crop production, silvopasture, and solar power.
Also, the attendees can look forward to an update on the NYNGA English Walnut Project. This initiative is aimed at boosting English Walnut production in the state, and the update will provide valuable insights into its progress and outcomes.
The NYNGA encourages a spirit of sharing and community at its events. Attendees can bring nuts, nut tree products, or even nut-growing tools they no longer need, to share or sell. It's an excellent opportunity to exchange resources, learn from others, and perhaps even find that tool or seed you've been looking for.
To ensure a smooth experience for all, the NYNGA requires pre-registration for the meeting. The cost of registration, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is $20 for members and full-time students, and $25 for non-members. Prospective attendees can register at the NYNGA's official site.
The NYNGA's summer meeting promises to be an enriching experience for all nut tree enthusiasts, providing a blend of learning, networking, and sharing that's hard to match. Whether you're an experienced grower or just starting out, this event could be the perfect catalyst for your nut-growing journey.
