Swine Health Strategies Discussed at AASV June Meeting

By Jamie Martin

The American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV) is hosting a members-only session during the World Pork Expo on Thursday, June 5.

The event will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. CDT at the Elwell Family Food Center, located at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. There is no cost to attend, but entry is limited to current AASV members, and membership will be verified at the door.

Chaired by AASV Vice President Chris Rademacher, the session will begin with a welcome address, followed by a presentation from Anna Forseth on the proposed response plan for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in the swine industry. Attendees will then have the opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions about the plan.

At 1:35 p.m., Dusty Oedekoven and Meredith Petersen from the National Pork Board will introduce the National Swine Health Strategy. This will be followed by additional feedback and discussion led by Mark FitzSimmons.

The session will conclude with closing remarks from Rademacher at 2:45 p.m., with adjournment scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The meeting offers a valuable platform for AASV members to engage with key issues impacting swine health and collaborate on industry strategies.
